The scavo technique was introduced in the early 1950`s by glass artisans on the island of Murano, Italy. They developed the technique to obtain an archeological effect on glass typical of objects found buried underground for centuries. A mixture of several powders, the content of which is a highly guarded secret, is fused on the surface of the glass at a temperature of 800 degrees Celsius to achieve the crusty, aged appearance. Our Scavo Scroll Sconce is unusually thick for a piece of scavo glass. Antique brass mounting hardware. Also available in hard-wired version (7.30064-HW).
